Each day campers will ride for one full hour in a group setting with other campers of their ability. Riding lessons will first focus on safety of horse and rider with a concentration on the basics, i.e., “Balanced Seat Riding.” Advanced riders will begin to jump, learn basic dressage movements and learn the basics of polo. When not riding, campers will take part in “unmounted” classes where they will learn the basics of horse care and stable management. Campers will be provided a camp journal in which they will record their daily activities and photos to take home. Focused “Unmounted” Topics will include: Proper Grooming techniques; Understanding the parts of the bridle, saddle, and other tack; Proper tack maintenance; Feeding and exercise programs; Basic equine first-aid; Farrier demonstration; Show-jumping and cross-country course design; Video review of riding lesson; journal entries.
